I’m a data scientist and R&D researcher based in Tokyo, currently pursuing a Master’s in Computer Science at Georgia Institute of Technology (OMSCS).
I published a two-volume book on data visualization with Gihyo (技術評論社), which teaches visualization principles through manga, anime, and game datasets — a reflection of my belief that data becomes more engaging when paired with subjects people genuinely care about.
What I Write About
- Data visualization — techniques, tools (Plotly, Matplotlib), and the art of telling stories with data
- Pop culture × statistics — exploring anime, manga, and games through the lens of exploratory data analysis
- Lessons from side projects — what I learn from tracking every minute of my work with Toggl Track
Projects
- viz-madb — An interactive exploration of ~47 years of manga publication data, covering 21 visualization techniques
- road-to-vizbook — Visualizing the 1,161 hours it took to publish my data visualization books
- road-to-gatech — Documenting the 572 hours of preparation for Georgia Tech admission
Fun Fact
My pen name “Kakeami” (かけあみ) comes from a crosshatching technique used in manga. I dreamed of becoming a manga artist until junior high — and while I traded the pen for Python, I never lost my love for the medium.
